Yo, Mama!

For Mother’s Day it’s easy to send mom a bouquet, treat her to dinner or a day of shopping. But why go for the ordinary? This year why not treat her to something extra special that she’s sure to remember long after the flowers wither away.

The Mothers and Daughter Yoga class at Earthsong Yoga Studio in Marlborough is an opportunity for mothers and daughters to discover the joys of yoga together while flexing their muscles in downward dog, extended child and tree pose.

“It helps bridge the world between mother and daughter. Usually yoga is an activity either the mother or daughter does. It helps them understand part of this world,” said Helen Garabedian, yoga instructor.

This is the third year Garabedian has hosted the event, which usually attracts several pairs of mothers and daughters.

The class welcomes people of all yoga levels, from beginners to longtime students, and is advertised for mothers and daughters from age 8 to 88.

“ There’s one woman who comes to my Itsy Bitsy Baby Yoga class with her baby but she also has a 7 year old. She’s looking forward to coming with her daughter so her daughter can practice yoga like her baby sister,” Garabedian said.

Throughout the session, Garabedian will lead people through a series of poses, including some partner poses.“It incorporates touch, movement, laughter, yoga posture, practice and individuality, “she said.
